Last week I got to write an article for our monthly church newsletter. Each month, our church puts out a newsletter for the congregation full of upcoming events, articles by different pastors, etc. Our youth group is trying something new and giving each youth leader a chance to be a featured writer each month, to write on whatever they feel God has laid on their hearts. So, since I haven't blogged in forever, I thought I would share with you what I wrote for my featured article...
I get the honor of writing this month’s RevoYouth newsletter. How exciting! It’s great how we as leaders are starting to become more challenged and in that, empowered. It’s always a wonderful feeling for all of us, no matter where we are leading, to feel empowered and supported by those we serve under. I’m sure I could write you millions of newsletters about the fabulousity of our students, the direction I feel youth group heading or the work God is doing in me as a leader, but all of that would take more than just one article. So I decided to share about what it is I feel and feed off of when I am given the opportunity to serve your kids each week.
Passion. It’s what drives us to not just get the job done, but to give it our all. It’s passion that causes us to create greatness and inspire change. And it’s a lack of passion that causes us to drop the ball in putting forth our best efforts. The absence of passion is why we choose to settle for mediocre dreams, mundane lives, and even a “bare minimum” relationship with Christ.
I am a big believer in the idea that the only way we are going to get these students to strive for passion in their daily lives, their future and their walk with Christ is to be examples of what a passionate life looks like. We can teach and lecture and tell each other to give life our best or to work hard to pursue our dreams or to fervently seek after God and worship Him in all that we do, but words only go so far. We have to be a leadership team that clearly exudes passion. It’s not enough to just teach passion to our students. We need to be a passionate people, passionate for Christ, passionate in the way we live and the ways we serve. We need to be living out our passions and in that we will be worshiping the Creator in the very way He destined us to worship Him.
So, I encourage all of you to take some time to think about what it is you’re passionate about. What is it that makes you truly joyful? What makes you feel completely connected, soul, mind and body, with God? Maybe its writing, maybe it’s being a Pastor or a leader. Maybe for some of you it’s being a Mother or a Father. Everyone is different, and everyone can find beauty in different places. Our job is to discover where we find that beauty, and then use that to worship our God and bless others around us.
Random Facts About Me:
Nickname: Ever since high school, everyone decided to forget I had a first name and just called me Choy, or some variation of that... Choygirl, Choyburger, Choyface. I think my favorite is “Your Royal Choyness”
But to my 4 and 2 year old bffs, I am Danyoll
I feel most like myself when I am: Singing or dancing! That is where my passion can be found. So in keeping with the theme of my newsletter, I get to happily announce to you all that this summer, we are starting a new Performing and Visual Arts program for the youth! I, along with some of the other leaders and a few “special guest teachers” plan to hold different Performing and Visual arts classes each month. This includes music classes (both vocal and instrumental), acting classes, art classes and more. Anyone with questions please come and see me, I will be more than happy to share my vision and plans with you!
Favorite Verse: Proverbs 31:25 “She is clothed with strength and dignity; she can laugh at the days to come.” It sums up everything I want to be.
