A friend and I were talking recently and they told me about a dream they had, a few nights prior. Very rarely do I ever have dreams that speak to me, or hold some kind of symbolic meaning to my life; that's just not the way God chooses to communicate with me. And thats totally fine. Most of my dreams are silly little trips to Disneyland or random hanging out with friends. But when they told me about this dream, it was pretty clear to me that there was some sort of meaning behind it, and not just for the one who had the dream...
"I had a dream that I found a beautiful and small bird caught in a monstrous spiders web. I struggled and struggled to set the enclosed bird free but the spider was climbing toward it, closing in on it. I almost gave up, all I had was a plastic broom to dislodge a probably already injured bird. But somehow I set the bird free from the trap. The relief and gladness I felt was indescribable."
This dream speaks to the very core of who my friend is. Someone so caring. Someone who looks past their struggles to help someone who is trapped beyond beleif. Someone who sees the delicate beauty in others and strives to set that beauty free, for the world to see. Someone who holds the great ability to help someone find a way out of their confusing, sticky, tough surroundings. There is no doubt in my mind that God was trying to show them that they possess this power to help free people from what binds them.
But it's also a reminder. Sometimes we get so comsumed in trying to help others, trying to guide the ones we love out of that tough place. While it is so very important for us to remain selfless and to have such compassionate, loving hearts, we need to make sure we do not completely neglect ourselves. We don't want to wake up one day and see that, while everyone we love is free and roaming the Earth, we are more than trapped, with no way out, with a spider who is ready to attack. We ourselves are important. We are just as important as those we are trying to help. And how can we properly help free someone if we, ourselves are entangled beyond belief.
So make sure you take the time to properly care for yourselves, so that you may be strong and wise enough to care for and guide others. And take a moment to look around you and see those who bless your life in special ways. Recognize the gifts and strengths in the lives of those people and encourage them to take notice of those strengths and to take pride in those gifts. Begin to ask God to show you the strengths within yourselves and how you ought to use them.
What a beautiful dream, with a beautiful message and inspriation from a beautiful friend.
I am blessed
